When you add a microchip product to the consultation, you can record the new microchip ID from the consultation product line and save it to the patient record.
You can also record an existing microchip ID from the patient record or when creating a new patient from an appointment.
Prerequisite: A product must be tracked as a microchip to record the microchip ID from the consultation product line and save it to the patient record. See Set up microchip product tracking for more information.

Add a microchip ID from a patient consultation
Record the microchip ID from the patient consultation when the microchip is implanted and sold by your practice.

Start a new consultation from an appointment or the patient record.
OR
If the consultation has already been started, click the Consults tab in the patient record, and then click the consultation ID to open an existing draft consultation. - From the Provider drop-down list, select or verify the provider.
- In the Product/Service area, search for and select a microchip product.
- Click the menu button
on the consultation product line and select Edit Microchip ID.
- In the Edit Microchip ID window, enter the microchip ID.
Tip: Microchip IDs are typically 9, 10, or 15 numeric characters in length.
Note: If a microchip ID has already been saved in the patient record, you will see the microchip ID displayed. See Edit or delete a microchip ID below for more information. - Click Save.
Upon saving the microchip ID, it will be stored in the Microchip ID box on the patient Overview.
Add a microchip ID from a patient record
You can record a microchip ID that was previously implanted in the patient from an existing patient Overview.
- Search for and select the patient.
- On the Overview tab in the Microchip ID box, enter the microchip ID.
Tip: Microchip IDs are typically 9, 10, or 15 numeric characters in length. - Click Save.
You can also record the microchip ID when you create a new patient from the client or from a new appointment.
Edit or delete a microchip ID
You can modify a microchip ID from the consultation product line where it was originally entered or from the patient record, if needed. For example, the wrong or incomplete ID was entered, or the ID was entered for the wrong patient.
- To edit or delete the microchip ID from the consultation product line from a draft consultation, click the menu button
on the consultation product line, select Edit Microchip ID, update or delete the microchip ID, and click Save.
- To edit or delete the microchip ID from the patient record, click the Overview tab, update or delete the microchip ID, and click Save.
Note: If a microchip ID was originally recorded from a consultation product line, the microchip ID will be updated in both the consultation and patient record.
View a microchip ID
The patient microchip ID can be viewed in the Microchip ID box on the patient Overview.
