View a patient prescription history

You can view a patient’s complete prescription history from their Rx tab for:

  • prescriptions with an Rx ID generated by Neo.
  • For US customers only. Prescriptions shipped from Vetsource when your practice has a Vetsource Prescription Management connection with Neo.

You can also view prescription information from a patient’s Consults tab.

This article will teach you how to view prescriptions in the Neo patient record.

View prescription information from the patient Rx tab

The Rx tab will include an individual row for each prescription created for the patient.

Additionally, you can review prescription update history, as well as discontinued and voided prescriptions.

  1. Search for and select the patient.
  2. Click the Rx tab.
  3. View the patient’s prescription history.

Prescriptions, refills, and discontinued prescriptions display in the default view.

Name Description Vetsource prescriptions only
Prescribed

Product name and Rx ID

Tip: Hover your mouse over the product name in the Prescribed column to see:

  • Full product name, if truncated
  • If the product is inactive. For example, if you've stopped carrying the product at your practice and inactivated it in the Products list.

Prescriptions created in Vetsource can be identified by:

  • a box iconVetsource rx box icon.png that displays to the left of the prescribed product name.
  • Vetsource displays at the beginning of the Rx ID. For example, Vetsource Rx ID: 3434.
    Note: Over-the-counter sales can be identified when OTC displays as part of the Vetsource Rx ID.
Filled Date

The default sort order of the Rx tab

Tip:

  • You can also sort by the Prescribed column to view all prescriptions for the same medication and /or Rx ID.
  • To change the sort order, click the column header.
This is the prescription shipped date.
Provider The prescription provider When there is no provider attached to the purchase, Provider = Vetsource.
Instructions The prescription instructions  
Qty The quantity prescribed  
Refills Remaining

The number of refills remaining

The Refill checkbox will only display:

  • For prescriptions created in Neo.
  • On the current (most recent) prescription when there is at least 1 refill or refill as needed is authorized.
IMPORTANT: Prescriptions created in Vetsource cannot be refilled in Neo even if there are refills remaining; refill the prescription in Vetsource, as applicable.

The menu button is available on every row.

Note: The menu button does not display in the client portal or 3rd party access.

  • Click the menu button and select an action, as appropriate (View Consultation, Print Label, etc.) on that prescription row.
  • The menu button does not display when a prescription was voided by the consultation being deleted.
The only menu option available for Vetsource prescription is View Consultation.

The View button is available on every row.

Click the View button to see additional information about the prescription.

  • Batch information
  • Edit history - who created and updated the prescription and when (date).
  • Discontinued details – the reason the remaining refills were discontinued, who discontinued the remaining refills, and when (date).
  • Void details – the reason the prescription was voided, who voided the prescription, and when (date).
  • For multi branch practices. The branch the prescription was created in.
  • The Added by and Ordered from will display as Vetsource.
  • The date the prescription was added to the Neo patient record displays to the right of the Added by.
    Note: This date may be different from the Fill Date.
  • If additional notes were sent from Vetsource, they will display in the Additional Information section.
Discontinued prescriptions

Discontinued prescriptions are identified by a yellow flag in the upper-left corner of the prescription row.

Tip: You can use your mouse to hover over the yellow flag to quickly view the discontinue refills reason.

 
Voided prescriptions

Voided prescriptions can be viewed when you select the Include Voided checkbox.

  • Voids are identified by a red flag in the upper-left corner of the prescription row.
  • You can use your mouse to hover over the red flag to quickly view the void reason.

View prescription information from the patient Consults tab

You can view prescription information right from the patient Consults tab, saving you a step to open the consultation to view the details.

  1. Search for and select the patient.
  2. Click the Consults tab.
  3. View the patient’s consultation history.
    Tip: To locate a prescription using your browser search, press Ctrl (CMD) + F and enter a keyword. For example, a full or partial medication name or “Rx”.

For prescriptions created in Neo, you can see the prescription information below the product name:

  • Rx ID
  • Label instructions, as available
  • Batch number, as available

For Vetsource prescriptions only, you can see the prescription information in a notes-only consultation.

  • The consultation is automatically added to the patient record in Neo when the prescription is created in Vetsource.
    • It is automatically permanently closed.
    • The close date is today, i.e. the date the consultation was created.
  • No consultation provider will be selected.
  • The Created by user will be Vetsource.
    • Prescription details are automatically added to the consultation notes:
      • Product name
      • Qty
      • Refills remaining
      • Instructions
      • Provider
        Note: If no provider name is available, Vetsource will display.
        o Rx ID
        o Source = Vetsource
        o Additional notes
    • Vetsource consultations can be voided and corrected, as needed.
      • When you void a consultation created by Vetsource, the associated prescription will also be voided.
      • IMPORTANT: When you correct a consultation created by Vetsource, the associated prescription will be voided only; the prescription will not be re-created on the new corrected consultation.
